Anmerkungen Anmerkungen:

Mentor Biologics, Inc., a subsidiary of Mentor Corporation and Johnson & Johnson, is located in the University Research Park at 535 Science Drive. This site houses R&D and GMP bulk manufacturing of the company's PurTox cosmetic botulinum toxin that is in late stage clinical testing. This next-generation botulinum toxin type A product is based on proprietary technology that yields a formulation designed to be purer than other commercially available botulinum toxin products.

Company History:
In 2003, Mentor obtained an exclusive license from the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation for botulinum toxin technology developed at the UW-Madison. In 2004, the Santa Barbara, Calif.-based Fortune 500 biotech giant began operating a facility at 535 Science Drive in the park for the production of products utilizing the botulinum toxin technology. In 2007-08 Mentor built a $24 million, 37,000 square-foot finish and fill manufacturing facility at Whitney Way and Research Park Boulevard. Mentor anticipated employing about 40 people when fully operational. On January 17, 2009, Johnson & Johnson acquired Mentor Corp., which will become a standalone business unit within J&J's ETHICON Inc. business unit. J&J's intent was to make Mentor the cornerstone upon which to build a cosmetic surgery franchise. Due to the acquisition of the company by J&J, the manufacturing plant was deemed redundant and never made operational. In March 2010 the facility was donated to the private Morgridge Institute, a UW-Madison affiliate, which will use it as a research facility.
